sobre excerto de Muriel (Resnais)

Um homem a abrir portas. É um movimento que se repete e que vai sempre dar ao mesmo, não acontece nada: abre a porta, abre a luz, olha. Quando abre em vez disso uma gaveta há uma quebra, estávamos na expectativa de continuarem a ser mais portas. Esta repetição dá a sensação que o tempo não avança, acontece sempre o mesmo, quase como se fosse sempre a mesma porta. Mas há uma tensão crescente. Para intensificar a sequência aqui o tempo não é estendido, é subtraído: o tempo real de deslocamento entre as portas não existe, porque não é relevante e não contribui para o ritmo da sequência.

Abour film excerpt from Muriel (Resnais)

A man opening doors. It is a movement that is repeated and that will always lead to the same thing, nothing happens: open the door, turn the lights on, look. When a drawer is opened instead there is a break, we were hoping to continue to be more doors. This repetition gives the feeling that time does not advance, it always happens the same, almost as if it were always the same door. But there is growing tension. To intensify the sequence here, time is not extended, it is subtracted: the real time of the movement between the doors does not exist, because it is not relevant and don’t contribute to the rhythm of the sequence.

Conversa em torno do excerto do filme « M de matou »

Sobre o excerto « M de matou »

Uma menina está com um homem desconhecido e uma mãe está à espera dela: ela nunca mais chega e não está em nenhum sítio em que devia estar. Finalmente vê-se o balão sem menina nenhuma. A sequência está montada de forma a intercalar a mãe à espera e a menina ou onde não está a menina, isso faz com que se estenda muito o tempo e intensifica a ansiedade da mãe que cresce à medida que o tempo passa. O tempo passaria
de maneira muito diferente se fosse só um plano sequência da mãe na cozinha.

about the excerpt from « M le Maudit »

A girl is with an unknown man and a mother is waiting for her: she never arrives and is nowhere she should be. Finally the balloon is seen without any girl. The sequence is assembled in such a way as to interpose the waiting mother and the girl or where the girl is not, this causes the time to extend a lot and intensifies the mother’s anxiety that grows as time passes. Time would pass very differently if it were just a sequential plan of the mother in the kitchen.

Um rapaz e uma rapariga estão a conversar e estão a ver o pôr do sol, mas eles não estão só a ver o pôr do sol: quando começamos a ver o sol a descer sobre o mar a rapariga começa a chorar, o pôr do sol tem um significado muito importante, não é só mais um pôr do sol. O foco vai-se tornando cada vez mais o pôr do sol e menos a conversa das personagens e estamos todos à espera de ver se vemos ou não o raio verde. Na filmagem também devia estar toda a gente presa ao pôr do sol a olhar na mesma expectativa.

Os dois planos foram filmados em separado: o das personagens, dos actores, pode ter sido filmado várias vezes, o do pôr do sol foi filmado quando estava mesmo a acontecer. Na montagem um aparece com o outro e apesar de nem terem a mesma luz – no das personagens nem há variação de luz – acreditamos que eles estão a assistir ao pôr do sol porque há uma ligação emocional muito forte com a descida do sol.

Abour film excerpt from Le Rayon Vert 

A boy and a girl are talking and watching the sunset, but they are not just watching the sunset: when we start to see the sun coming down over the sea the girl starts to cry, the sunset it has a very important meaning, it’s not just another sunset. The focus becomes more and more the sunset and less the conversation of the characters and we are all waiting to see whether or not we see the green ray or not. In the filming, everyone should also be stuck at sunset with the same expectation.

The two plans were filmed separately: that of the characters, of the actors, may have been filmed several times, that of the sunset was filmed when it was actually happening. In the montage, one appears with the other and although they do not have the same light – none of the characters and there is no variation of light – we believe that they are watching the sunset because there is a very strong emotional connection with the descent of the sun.

Pedimos à turma que pensasse o tempo e a forma como este pode ser precepcionado através de um pequeno exercício: observar as árvores em redor da escola, escolher uma e fotografa-la em diferentes alturas do dia e longo de diferentes dias.

We asked the class to think about the Time and how it can be perceived through a small exercise: observing the trees around the school, choosing one and photographing it at different times of the day and over different days.

Sobre excerto de Primavera Tardia (Ozu)

O homem descasca a maçã de uma forma muita lenta, muito cuidada e depois fica a olhar para a maçã. Parece um ritual. Quando se descasca uma maçã normalmente não o fazemos assim e quando a acabamos de descascar não ficamos a olhar para ela. Ele está sozinho e quando não se tem nada para fazer isso faz com que as tarefas mais simples se tornem mais delicadas, não as realizamos de forma automática como quando estamos dentro da rotina. Os gestos dele transmitem uma grande solidão. O silêncio e a música, triste, acrescentam também um peso que estes gestos não teriam se houvesse barulhos a distrair.

The man peels the apple very slowly, very carefully and then looks at the apple. It looks like a ritual. When you peel an apple you usually don’t do it like that, and when you have just peeled it, you don’t just look at it. He is alone and when you have nothing to do that makes the simplest tasks become more delicate, you don’t perform them automatically as when you are within the routine. His gestures convey great loneliness. Silence and sad music also add a weight that these gestures would not have if there were distracting noises.

Aprendi a ver filmes com outros olhos porque tive a experiência de gravar.
